The Plot

Chakara: A chakara is a peculiar marine phenomenon in which many fish and prawns throng together during a particular season as part of mud bank formations

Water takes up almost three-quarters of the earth's surface. It surrounds land masses, fills up dents, flows through crevices and seeps into the depths. It may appear to be separating us but look closer and you will see that it connects us across the vast expanse of our planet.

A fisherman on the west coast of India sits in wait for chakara. A monsoon phenomenon that washes up small fishes like salmon and tuna into the mud banks along the shores. For years, he had waded in with his father and helped collect the fish. A few years ago, the sea had become stingy about sharing its bounty during chakara and in the last 3-4 years, it stopped entirely. Morose, he laments to the sea, and sends off a message in a bottle, seeking answers. Looking for hope. Will someone reply?

Thousands of nautical miles away, a marine biologist wanders along the Southern British coastline. She clears the tonnes of garbage that the waves have purged on to the land. The sea was her first love, but seeing it abused and assaulted on a daily basis, has left her disillusioned. She cleans up the shore only to see more rubbish pile up...a never-ending cycle. She is at the brink of despair, when she comes across the message in the bottle. Will she respond?

As the two strangers exchange letters, they become  unlikely mates. They may be separated by their purpose but they stand united in their cause... Infuse new life into this invaluable resource on the third rock from the sun
